This artist’s book, held in the Henry Moore Institute Research Library, is by the artist collective TEA (Jon Biddulph, Peter Hatton, Val Murray and Lynn Pilling). The group explore the hidden lives of places and how and where they might be represented. This publication from 1999 documents a car journey made by the group between hotels in Liverpool, Bolton, Wakefield and Hull and the video work which was shown in four hotels as part of Artranspennine98, an exhibition of international contemporary visual art.

The making of the piece is described on the small box (6x9x6cm) which holds this concertina strip of images and text.

The journey was recorded on video shot in real time from the side window of the car. Each time road conditions brought the car (and therefore the video) to a halt a photograph was taken to log the location.

This publication presents these 111 photographs in sequence. The route was retraced in order to invite people who live or work at these locations to record personal commentaries. These form the sound track of the video and extracts provide the text for this publication.
